"Matchmaking 101: Considerations for Finding Your Mare's Perfect Match"

Sport horse breeding is part science, and part art. The ability to artfully match the right stallion to the right mare, to then create a top performer, sets the great breeders apart from the good ones.

Join us to hear two top American breeders share how they approach equine matchmaking with the goal of producing quality sport prospects!

Saret Tola has been breeding sporthorses for more than 25 years, Saret Tola speaks the language of sport horse pedigree fluently. In depth tutelage from world class EU sporthorse breeders, trainers and vets has immersed Saret with a deep understanding of equine biomechanics further elevating her well rounded expertise in the field. She is in demand for her equine consultation business to aid breeders to make the best choices to produce successful sporthorses. Saret has been a pioneer in the equine industry, being an integral part in the conception of the Young Horse Show series and North American Studbook, now a WBFSH full member!  Wishing to share these gifts, Saret now mentors breeders and has found much joy in judging young horse classes. Investing her lifetime taking part in equestrian sport while raising her stellar homebred warmbloods, Saret admits she has morphed into at least 50% equine.

Elizabeth and her husband, Greg Houtsma, DVM, own Hillside H Ranch, a small warmblood breeding farm located in West central Missouri. There they typically produce four to eight foals per year, with an emphasis on top show jumping bloodlines.  Elizabeth had her first warmblood foals on the ground in 2006. Since then she has produced many jumpers successful at all levels, including Grand Prix. Her program has also produced several winning hunters, USEF Horse of the Year award winners and USHJA Zone Champions. In addition she has produced dozens of Premium foals and mares, many inspection site champion mares and foals,  numerous National top ten inspection awarded horses and several highest scoring mares for the entire inspection tour, across multiple registries. Most recently she has dipped her toe into the stallion owning world, with her homebred, licensed stallion, Call Me Captain HH.
